CIT at Bellerbys

The purpose of studying CIT at Bellerbys is to learn to use applications that will help us at university and eventually in our work life. I have learned how to use excel and many of its functions. I like the exercises that we are given to complete in the lesson and how the teacher puts in effort to help us understand how to use the functions, he doesn’t mind repeating himself and nor does he get angry if we ask him the same questions again. The difficulty sometimes is in following the steps as although when the teacher does the demonstration. It seems easy but when I have to actually do it myself, I always miss out on the steps. I need to do more practice on the excel coursework as it will be very helpful for me in the future. Although we have done our share of practices in class, I think we need some more so that we will remember the formulas and the functions. We are taught by the teacher giving us the day’s course work and then teaching us step by step how to do it until we do the task given to us and hand it in.

English classes

Foundation English classes in Bellerbys have been a mixture of fun and boring. Sometimes, they are a lot of fun as we get to learn different things, the coursework is exciting and the discussions are enlightening.  However, sometimes the classes get boring, as the material being taught is too easy. The difference between academic and general English is that general English is more laid back than the former and it is more useful in our everyday life. I enjoy the fact that teachers let us go at our own pace and help us when we need it. The extended essay coursework has been the most difficult task that we have been given until now, I always fear that I have done it wrong and have gone off track. I need to learn about how to stay on topic and organization in my writing tasks. We are taught trough watching videos, taking notes and writing essays.

Main Subject: Law

The main subject I am studying in Bellerbys is Law. The reason I am studying this is because I want to study law at university and I am really interested in this subject. It will pave my way for my dream job of being a lawyer. What I have understood so far is that law is not something just made by judges, there are different sources of law that law comes from. The difficulty so far is memorizing the so many cases and their details. Some points of law are exceptionally difficult as there are so many exceptions to one rule. In the foundation course, we have been studying the basics of law only, I think I need to know and understand the theories more in depth and figure out how they will work in real life scenarios. Different teachers have different approaches to teaching the subject, some like us to go through the notes to study while the others prefer us to take notes down from the board.

Studying in the UK and Hong Kong

Hong-Kong_skyline

There is a very big difference in studying in Hong Kong and in the UK. In Hong Kong, the education system is extremely competitive and exam oriented. The teachers are very performance focused and their only focus is on getting students to memorize the syllabus and do well in the exams. In contrast, the teaching style in the UK is quite laid back, the teachers are more concerned about us understanding the concepts and knowing our opinions on it. This makes it easier for us to remember the theories and concepts. The workload in Hong Kong is a lot more than here. Teachers give a lot of homework and expect it back in a shorter time in Hong Kong compared to the UK. Friendships are according to the general rule everywhere, if you like someone and you have a mutual understanding, you will get along, no matter where you are. The class sizes are much bigger in Hong Kong than here, at least double or more of its number.

Arriving in the UK

I was very excited to be coming to the UK, as it was my first trip to the country. I landed in the Birmingham Airport. My first impression was not very good because the Immigration personnel was not kind. I thought the Airport was really small and there were such long queues. The weather was very cold when I got out of the Airport. I stayed with my brother who stays there for a week. I started liking Birmingham eventually as it has a very big shopping center and there were many places to chill at. My friend used to take me to Bull Ring and restaurants. I liked Brighton from the beginning, as it was different from the 2 places I have been; London and Birmingham. It is beautiful, quiet and serene. I want to study law at university and become a solicitor after I complete my studies.
